MSc in Sustainable Transport and Travel Planning

Loughborough University Transport Studies Group, JMP and Transport for London would like to invite ACT Travelwise and MODESHIFT members to: Lunch and Lecture at Loughborough

Session 1.Travel Plan Design in different sectors and at larger scales.
Travel Plans have recently evolved from focusing only on workplaces to other sectors including schools and leisure facilities, while a second development has seen a shift in scale from individual organisations to local groups or networks. So far though, it is not always clear that travel planning methods have developed sufficiently to take account of this diversification. This session draws on the experiences of our three speakers to tease out how various sectors differ, and at how Travel Planners might deal with these differences.
Speakers: Iain MacBeth and Caroline Hedger, JMP;
Emma Sheridan, Transport for London

Time: 1.00pm for lunch; 2.00pm-3.30pm for lecture.
Date: Friday 14 March 2008.

Session 2. What can Travel Plans Deliver? Embedding and encouraging take-up to enhance effectiveness
Travel Plans potentially offer significant benefits in terms of cutting car use, mitigating congestion, improving the environment and solving parking problems. Yet good practice examples remain few and far between. This session invites our speakers and the audience to explore why this is, and specifically focuses on the scope for making Travel Plans more effective at the site level and at how to better enhance their take-up on a wider scale.

Speakers: Rose McArthur, Colin Buchanan; Helen Roby, Open University; and John Elliott, Independent Transport Consultant.
Time: 1.00pm for lunch; 2.00pm-5.00pm for lecture.
Date: Friday 9 May 2008.
Venue: Department of Civil and Building Engineering, Loughborough University

Limited places.
Available to ACT TravelWise and MODESHIFT members only. Cost is £10 and prior booking is required.
